Reasons for Settlement
One reason Georgia was settled was for Charity. Oglethorpe ,whom helped establish Georgia, was a person who was big on charity. He was big on charity because one of his true close friends died in debtors jail.Oglethorpe wanted to establish Georgia to help the poor.
Another reason Georgia was settled was for Economics. King George figured if he could make all the citizens work without pay he could earn money. Also King George wanted to be able to trade. Trade helped with mercantilism. Mercantilism is exporting more than you import. Mercantilism was very big because the English liked to use it.
Lastly, Georgia was established for defense. The people wanted to be prepared for any fights or wars that may come their way. The people that we're colonizing Georgia wanted to set up a military and be ready to defend themselves.
